Safe Shores – The DC Children’s Advocacy Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and families affected by abuse, trauma, and violence in Washington, D.C. With a focus on survivor-centered, trauma-informed care, Safe Shores provides a safe, child-friendly environment where children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse can receive coordinated support from a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including law enforcement, medical experts, mental health providers, and social services. Their mission is to offer intervention, hope, and healing while also working to prevent child abuse through education, advocacy, and community partnerships. Guided by a vision of a just and caring world where all children are safe, Safe Shores plays a critical role in both helping survivors and strengthening the systems that protect them.

The Freddie Mac Foundation Child and Adolescent Protection Center at Children’s National Hospital is the sole medical facility in Washington, D.C. with a specialized team of healthcare professionals focused on supporting child abuse victims, survivors, and their families. It is also among a limited number of hospitals nationwide that utilize a team-based approach for evaluating and caring for these individuals.
